When we purchase, makeup in the store, do we ever stop to think about the ingredients that could be included in this makeup? Yes, green makeup is a safe alternative however; it can also be a costly one if you choose to buy green make up from a manufacturer.
So an alternative to having to pay for green makeup is to actually make natural makeup at home using some basic ingredients. This isn’t as difficult as it may seem and by making the natural makeup, you will know exactly what the makeup contains. In order to make natural makeup at home some ingredients that will be needed are as follows:
- organic potato starch
- organic corn starch
- organic sunflower oil
- organic cinnamon
- organic baking cocoa
- beet powder
- beeswax beads
Some of these can be purchased in a grocery store, but since all of these ingredients are to be organic to insure that no preservatives are included the best place to go to obtain all the ingredients would be a health food store. The last item needed to make natural makeup will be small containers or jars to hold the makeup, these can either be purchases or recycled from containers you already own.
To make loose translucent powder for your face use the following ingredients:
two tablespoons of the potato starch and the corn starch then add them to a jar, cover the jar with lid then shake the jar to mix ingredients. Please note that it’s important to remove any lumps from both starches first in order for the powder to be smooth. Once the powder is mixed it can be used as a base to make other make up such as eye shadow and tinted face powder.
To make tinted face powder take the cinnamon and add a small amount till you have the tint that you want for your skin type. The tint can be check by placing a small amount of the mixture onto your wrist to see how it looks on your skin.
When making eye shadow again the potato and cornstarch are used as the base. To the two starches, add a little of the cocoa. As with the process of making the tinted face powder keep adding the cocoa till the desired shade is acquired. If you prefer vibrant colors and aren’t oppose to using them then food coloring can also be used to give you the shade of eye shadow that you desire. Place the natural eye shadow in the container of choice once the color is completed.
For lipgloss or rouge take two tablespoons of the sunflower oil along with a tablespoon of the beeswax bead and heat them together until the beeswax has completely melted. Once the two ingredients are taken off the heat, add the beet powder for the desired shade. A small amount would be idea for a light pink shade, while a teaspoon is ideal to obtain a vibrant shade of red. Allow ingredients to cool then test to see if the shade is the one that is desired, if not add more beet powder. Continue process till the shade is the one you want then place in the container.
These are just some ideas of how to go about making your own natural makeup at home. There are other possibilities out there, remember not only is this an opportunity to go green with your makeup but also a way to let your creative ideas come forth.
